Renovation and Adobe oven with crafted tool shed
Norris house is a two story strawbale certified passive house (3rd of it's kind in NZ). It achieved a Homestar 10 rating. It's located on the port hills in Christchurch.
Norris house is full of good quality local materials. Thick insulation (straw bale and terra lana wool) , compact form, triple glazed timber windows that frame the views, claddings that complement one another. There are unique curves and murals inside and outside making it a crafted home that is one of a kind.
Everhomes built this house from start to finish with a number of workshops involving the community along the way. It was on tour during the construction process; Earth Building Conference 2024, Passive House Hui 2024, Superhome tours 2024. And viewed by thousands more on Grand Designs NZ, Season 10, Episode 3 featuring the reveal. Norris house will be part of the Open Christchurch weekend house tours in May 2026 and the Passive House tours 2026. Elizabeth has invited Architecture students from Ara to tour the house.

The house was designed by Design & Make Architects (Elizabeth Guthrey, and peer reviewed by Architect director Delia Bellaby). Engineering by Paul Jaquin from eZED Engineers and Elliot Sinclair for geotechnical. Credit to Everett Norris, lead builder and many other builders who came a long for periods of the build (Florian, Zuke, Lucia, Ayun, and family, friends & HelpX).
